PipTax (piptax.com) is a broker cost-comparison and education service operated by Evander Labs, a trading name of Iain William Davidson (45 Albemarle Street, London W1S 4JL). Evander Labs is the data controller for any personal data collected through this site. You can reach us at hello@piptax.com.
The short version: we collect almost nothing. This page explains exactly what we do collect, why, and what your rights are. There is no fine print here that contradicts the plain version.
1. The calculator runs in your browser
Our cost-comparison calculator works entirely on your device. The trade sizes, pairs and broker selections you enter are processed in your browser and are never sent to our servers. We cannot see them, we do not store them, and they disappear when you close the page.
2. What we do collect
Only two things, and one of them is optional.
2.1 Web server access logs
Like almost every website, our web server automatically records basic technical details of each visit:
- your IP address
- your browser type and operating system (the “user agent”)
- the pages requested, and the date and time of the request
We keep these logs for a short period (no longer than 30 days) solely to keep the site secure and diagnose technical faults — for example, to identify abusive traffic. We do not use them to profile you, track you across other sites, or build marketing audiences. They are then deleted.
2.2 Early-access email list (optional)
If you choose to join our early-access list, we collect your email address. That’s it. We use it for one purpose: to send you updates about the PipTax launch and new features.
- Joining is explicit opt-in — we never add you to the list without your action.
- Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and we then delete your address from the list.
- We do not share the list with anyone for their own marketing, and we never sell it.
3. What we don’t do
- No selling of personal data, ever. Not to brokers, not to advertisers, not to anyone.
- No accounts. The site does not require registration and holds no user profiles.
- No third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Our only analytics is our own (section 4).
- No collection of your trading data. Calculator inputs stay on your device (section 1).
4. Cookies and our own analytics
We use a single, first-party analytics tool that we operate ourselves — EvanderSignal (run by the same operator as PipTax) — to understand which pages genuinely help visitors and to measure the performance of our own advertising. We do not use third-party advertising networks, ad-retargeting pixels, or cross-site tracking, and we never sell your data.
Because this analytics is not strictly necessary for the site to function, we treat it as requiring your consent. The analytics does not load until you accept it in the notice shown on your first visit; if you decline, or ignore the notice, no analytics tag is loaded and no analytics cookie or identifier is stored. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site’s storage in your browser.
When you have consented, EvanderSignal records: the pages you view and basic interactions on them, your approximate location and device/browser type, the referring page, and — if you arrived from one of our adverts — the advertising click identifier and campaign parameters (for example Google’s gclid and UTM tags) so we can tell which adverts and search terms lead to genuinely useful visits. This is used only to improve the site and our own marketing. It is stored on our own infrastructure and is not sold or shared with brokers or advertisers.
Any strictly necessary cookies the site sets (for example, basic security, or remembering your analytics choice) do not require consent and are used only to make the site work.
5. Broker and affiliate links
Some links on PipTax take you to broker websites, and some of those are disclosed affiliate links. When you click one, you leave our site, and the broker’s own privacy policy applies from that point. We do not pass the broker any personal data about you — the link may carry a referral tag identifying PipTax as the source, but nothing that identifies you personally from our side. If any partner programme ever requires us to store attribution data on our own site — for example, a first-party cookie to credit a referral — we will treat it as non-essential, update this policy and section 4, and ask for your consent before setting it.
6. Our lawful bases (UK GDPR)
| Data | Purpose | Lawful basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server access logs (IP address, user agent) | Site security and fault diagnosis | Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — keeping the service secure | Up to 30 days, then deleted |
| Email address (early-access list) | Launch and feature updates | Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — withdrawable at any time | Until you unsubscribe or the list is retired |
| Analytics data (pages viewed, device/approx. location, referrer, ad click ID & campaign tags) | Improving the site and measuring our own advertising, via our own EvanderSignal analytics | Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — loaded only after you accept, withdrawable at any time | Retained on our infrastructure; not sold or shared |
7. Who we share data with
We use a small number of service providers (“processors”) to run the site — a hosting provider for the website and, for the early-access list, an email delivery service. They process data only on our instructions, under contract, and cannot use it for their own purposes. Where any provider stores data outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards recognised under UK GDPR (such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses) are in place.
Beyond that, we would only disclose personal data if legally required to do so.
8. The upcoming statement-upload feature
We plan to launch a feature that lets you upload your MT4/MT5 trading statement for a personal cost audit. Because that involves more meaningful data, it will only launch with:
- its own explicit, separate consent step before any upload, and
- an updated version of this policy, published in advance, explaining exactly how statement data is handled, stored and deleted.
Nothing in the current site uploads or transmits your trading data.
9. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you
- correct inaccurate data
- erasure — ask us to delete your data
- restrict or object to our processing
- data portability where applicable
- withdraw consent at any time (for the email list, the unsubscribe link does this instantly)
To exercise any of these, email hello@piptax.com. We will respond within one month. Given how little data we hold, most requests are straightforward: if you are not on our email list, in most cases the only data we could hold about you is a short-lived server log entry.
You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) — ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern first, but you do not have to contact us before going to the ICO.
10. Children
PipTax is a trading-cost comparison service aimed at adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has joined our email list, contact us and we will remove the address.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal data — including when the statement-upload feature launches — we will update this page and change the date at the top before the new practice takes effect. Material changes affecting the email list will also be announced by email to subscribers.
